Hello!

I'm Maheen. I'm an undergraduate student at Rice University in Houston, Texas. I'm currently studying philosophy and practicing human-centered design, tied together by my interest in how people can make better decisions.

This past summer I worked at a housing justice organization in San Francisco. Talking to hundreds of people about their relationship with housing led me to research how local tax policy changes have incentivized tech sector growth and accelerated gentrification in the Mission. My findings were handed over to the folks pushing for Prop C - and it just passed! Now that I'm back in Houston, I'm working on improving data visualization of Harris Country arrest records, in hopes that folks without legal expertise can better understand how criminal justice policies affect their communities.

My current research interests are in how legal systems can digitize in the next decade and how community behaviors can change if legal information is made more accessible.
